Medicare

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease. Medicare is managed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Social Security works with CMS by enrolling people in Medicare.

There are four parts of Medicare: Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D

  • Part A provides inpatient/hospital coverage
  • Part B provides outpatient/medical coverage
  • Part C, also known as Medicare Advantage plan, offers an alternate way to receive your Medicare benefits
  • Part D provides prescription coverage

Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap)

Medigap is a Medicare Supplement Insurance that helps fill “gaps” in Original Medicare and is sold by private companies. Original Medicare pays for much, but not all, of the cost for covered health care services and supplies. A Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) policy can pay some of the remaining health care costs, like:

  • Copayments
  • Coinsurance
  • Deductibles
